Swimming pool trends to watch in 2019.

Thanks to the Australian lifestyle, a backyard pool will never go out of style. But, like any design trend, certain elements move up and down in the style takes. If you’re looking to add a pool to your backyard, take a look at the design trends set to make a splash in 2019.

Beach swim out

This has been a preference for many of our clients in 2018 and there’s no sign that this will change. Perfect for kids, the beach swim out is a 500mm deep platform that kids (and adults) can play on. Little ones learning to swim will love being able to practice their kicks in the safety of the shallows, while adults will find it’s the perfect depth to sit down and cool off with a cheeky cocktail or two.

Shallow wading area

If you’ve got the space and want to make an impact, consider adding a shallow wading area. Around 300mm deep, the water here heats up like a rockpool, making it perfect for little ones to splash around, and also the ideal feature for pool parties.

Fully automated pool

Who wants to spend their Saturday cleaning the pool? If you’re like us, you’re too busy spending time with the kids or recovering from the week that was to want to spend more time on housework.

Enter the fully automated pool. Thanks to modern tech, you can control the temperature, the water chemistry of your pool and the in-floor cleaning system with just your smartphone. Switch it on at lunch and your pool will be nice and sparkly when you get home. Add an electronic cover and you’ll be able to keep the heat in and the leaves out, without the effort of having to manually remove it.

Resort style pools

No need to go on a resort holiday when your backyard provides the perfect oasis. We’re seeing a lot of clients opt for resort-style pools, combining stunning design with striking landscaping and styled furniture. In this way, the pool is becoming yet another way to make a statement in the home.

Naturally-aged timber or gorgeous polished concrete surrounds add simplicity. White-on-white design with beautiful rattan furniture and natural fabrics bring the look to life. Wanting this for your own backyard? Consider incorporating landscaping into your pool build for a seamless look.

Plunge pool

Thanks to the rise of the duplex, modern blocks are just too small to fit an oversized pool. Many of our clients want the benefits of a pool without giving up every last inch of their (small) backyard.

Enter the plunge pool. This pool trend is proving bigger isn’t better. Just large enough for friends and family to comfortably enjoy, while small enough to make maintenance a breeze, we’re loving the plunge pool.

Mineral water systems

A growing concern for what we expose our body to and a desire for a more natural experience is leading the trend for magnesium-potassium mineral pool systems. Less irritating than traditional chlorine pools, many people actually see skin-improving benefits when swimming in a mineral pool.

Fully tiled pool

If you’re after luxury, a fully tiled pool is the way to go. We’ve been travelling to Bali for years now and have often admired the use of larger mosaics (at 50mm x 50mm in size). Now, this trend is catching on in Australia.

The fully-tiled look is particularly striking in larger pools. And while white is gorgeous, we can’t go past the bold statement of natural stone or emerald green. Lush!

At Cronulla Pools, we design pools to suit your lifestyle. Whether a lush backyard oasis or a simple spot to cool off, we can create a pool that’s perfect for your family. Get in touch with our team to find out more about what we do.
