Meet Colin from Pool Sculpt Steel Fixing

When it comes to concrete pools, strength and durability are key. And that’s where the steel comes in—it’s basically the bones of your pool. Our steel fixer follows the design set out by our structural engineer to make sure every pool is rock solid.

Meet Colin ‘Woody’ Williams. Colin runs Pool Sculpt Formwork and Steel Fixing, supplying the timber and steel needed for new swimming pools once the hole is dug.

Colin’s a boilermaker by trade, but his brother introduced him to the pool world, and he’s been hooked ever since. Over the last ten years, his business has grown from doing 30 pools a year to close to 100. “I’m flat out—working seven days a week sometimes,” Colin says. “The pandemic made it even crazier. No one was going anywhere, so people were investing money on their homes. It’s good for business, but man, it’s been busy.”

Every day, Colin makes the commute from his home in Appin to job sites all over NSW. “It’s like the wild west out there,” he jokes. “It’s peaceful though—freezing in winter! We’ve got some sheep, chickens for my daughter to chase around, and a horse. It’s not a bad life.”

At Cronulla Pools, we think of formwork and steel fixing as a bit of an art form. Every piece of steel is bent and shaped by hand on-site to fit the pool’s specific design. Colin oversees every project personally, which is probably why he’s always so busy. But he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I don’t really advertise or put myself out there much,” he says. “I like to stick with my regular builders and give them the best service I can. That’s my priority.”

We use Poolsculpt Formwork and Steel Fixing for almost all our projects, and there’s a reason for that. Colin’s obsessed with getting every little detail right, just like us. He treats every pool as if it were his own, and it shows. He loves seeing a client’s dream pool take shape.

“It’s pretty satisfying, seeing a muddy hole in the ground turn into the shape of a pool,” Colin says. “That’s the best part of the job.”

And in true legend fashion, Colin’s donating his time and services to handle all the steel and framework for the winner of our Wanna Win a Pool competition.

“It’s always nice to give back,” he says. “I’m really looking forward to it. When I talked to the other trades, we all said the same thing—we’d do a couple of these a year if we could. It’s going to be fun!”
