5 things to consider when picking your pool interior (don’t choose it purely because it looked good in that Bali resort pic)

Building a pool? Congratulations! You’ve just unlocked a whole new world of decisions you didn’t know you’d have to make—like what kind of water colour best reflects your soul (lol).

From tiles to lighting to grout colour (yes, really)—it can be a lot. But don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for. We guide you through it all, step by step, with plenty of laughs and zero judgment (even if you bring 27,000 screenshots of Pinterest pools you “kind of like but not really”).

Let’s start with one of the big ones: your pool interior!

1. The water colour you actually want.
Spoiler: it’s not just about the colour tile. The same interior can look turquoise in full sun and deep blue in shade. Surrounding materials, sky reflection, and pool depth all play a part. We’ll help you nail the vibe.

2. How much sparkle you like.
Crushed quartz, glass beads, pebbles—some finishes shimmer like a disco ball, others give a more natural, matte feel. Think: Bondi rockpool vs. bougie resort. Both great. Just different.

3. Texture matters: Beadcrete vs. Tiles
Texture might not be the first thing you think about, but your feet will definitely notice the difference. Beadcrete has a gently textured feel—think natural and grippy without being rough. It gives the water a beautiful shimmer and adds just the right amount of traction (especially handy with energetic kids doing lap 47 of Marco Polo).

Fully tiled pools, on the other hand, are silky smooth. They feel luxe, look luxe, and give you endless design flexibility. If you’re dreaming of that gliding-through-a-spa kind of swim, tiles are your go-to.

Both are premium options—it just comes down to whether you want a soft grip or a super-smooth glide.

4. Maintenance & longevity.
Different interior colours age in different ways—but don’t worry, we’re not talking high maintenance, just a little personality. Darker pool interiors create a striking, moody look that’s incredibly popular for a reason—they’re bold, beautiful, and make your pool feel like a private resort. They can show up things like sunscreen smudges or calcium a little more, but nothing a quick brush or regular maintenance can’t handle.

Lighter colours are soft, bright, and give you that classic, clean finish. They tend to be a bit more forgiving when it comes to everyday marks, but still benefit from the same regular TLC.

Whatever finish you choose, we’ll make sure you understand exactly how to care for it—so your pool stays stunning for the long haul.

5. It has to work with your backyard.
That smoky grey pool on Pinterest? Might look green in your north-facing yard. The crisp white you loved? Could glare like crazy under our Aussie sun. We look at the big picture—house style, landscaping, lighting—to make sure it all works together.

Pool interiors are kind of like jeans: no one-size-fits-all, and you’ve got to try them on (with our help) to know what works best.
