Designing the perfect outdoor entertaining area.

Our friends at Think Built are local builders who we work with on the daily. They’ve written a very handy blog on planning for an outdoor space that is functional and fully equipped for those delectable backyard BBQ’s.

The team at Think Built are gearing up to head into the silly season: summer. Based in the Sutherland Shire, Think Built know there’s nothing better than a day by the beach before heading home for one last dip in the pool and the quintessential backyard barbie and beers.  What we’re getting at is we know what makes a summer do’ successful, and along with your brand new home, we know how to build you a space so your home becomes synonymous with ‘summer entertaining’.

When considering your outdoor space, we will take into consideration the property aspect, i.e. which way it is facing, in order to take advantage of the natural light in your backyard. This is especially important to soak in those gloriously long and balmy summer evenings during daylight saving. Proper planning and layout of your backyard is essential to make optimal use of your lot and our climate, maximising sunlight through the day, minimising wind exposure and retaining privacy (nudie rudie night swim, anyone?).

For example, certain fencing and hedging installations will help protect from Northeasterly winds throughout summer and sometimes pesky, sometimes welcome arvo Southerly’s. An open plan living space with a well-balanced indoor to outdoor ratio is also important and no we are not afraid to knock a few walls out to achieve the right flow!

Once the plan is complete and your build is in motion, choose a colour palette and materials to set the mood you’re after. A serene environment can be achieved with a natural, earthy palette using timber and stone as seen in our Trickett Road, Woolooware project. Alternatively, use darker colours on the exterior of your home for bold, ultra-modern vibes as seen in our Caringbah Road project.

Layout and colour scheme are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to planning your space both inside and outside, so get in touch and we’ll help create your haven. We work closely with our clients every time to make sure your dream home is indeed dreamy both inside and outside – so when it’s new and improved housewarming time, we expect to be invited to your bangin’ BBQ.
