‘The pile of dirt is massive!’ Meet the guy who digs the hole – Mick Haynes from Effortless Excavations

Definitely one of the biggest moments for our clients is when Mick Haynes from Effortless Excavations shows up on site in his machine, all ready to dig the hole where your dream pool will be built.

‘It’s pretty fun,’ Mick says. ‘Come have a go if you want! Usually it’s just me on my own on the machine, or I’ll have one of the guys come to help out the front.’

We’ve worked with Mick ever since day dot at Cronulla Pools. Matt and Mick played footy together when they were kids and when they got chatting a bit later in life, teaming up made perfect sense. Effortless Excavations do site clearing, demolition and of course pool excavation. They offer super-fast and efficient solutions, even with really tight access excavations.

‘We’re specialists on sites with limited access,’ Mick says. ‘We have all the tools and skills to get rid of earth and building materials down those tricky, narrow laneways and household paths.’

When we’re prepping you for what to expect with the excavation, we make sure you know that, like any stage in the build, it’s process, process, process. First, we make sure there are no plumbing lines passing through your yard, so there won’t be any drainage problems. Then we work out exactly where to dig, so there’s no damage to paths or patios. Part of Mick’s job is to strip any vegetation back and remove the top soil, and then the digging starts.

‘The pile of dirt is massive!’ Mick says. ‘Most clients know what’s going to happen but most are surprised by the sheer amount of earth to come out of the ground. There’s sometimes rubbish and stuff, too. I haven’t found any treasure yet, unfortunately. But I’m waiting for it!’

Another concern our clients often have is around the whole issue of having an epic piece of construction machinery roaring around their backyard.

‘That can be a new experience for many clients,’ Mick says. ‘That’s why you’ve gotta have someone doing the job who knows what they’re doing, because the last thing you want is a big hole in the fence. We ensure we do the work without damaging clients’ walls, fences or property.’

In terms of timing, Mick says most pool excavations usually take between two and four days.

‘It just depends on the kind of block it is,’ he says, ‘and if there’s rock underneath. It also depends on whether or not there are plumbing lines that run through your backyard.’

Mick Haynes and his team at Effortless Excavations are the best in the business. They’re fully licensed, highly skilled, and are total experts in works that require detail and precision, which can save clients loads of time and money. Like us, they see every job as essential and are committed to getting the job done perfectly – on time, and safely.

‘We don’t muck around,’ Mick says. ‘We hear plenty of horror stories about bad excavations – mess everywhere, guys not turning up on time. We’re precise and reliable, and we only use quality machines and equipment, too. Our clients trust us, that’s a big one. That’s kind of critical when it comes to demolition.’

For the winner of our Wanna Win a Pool competition, the excavation is in very good hands. Mick is generously offering his time, machinery, and services completely free of charge, to ditch the dirt and get the backyard of the winner all set and ready for that perfect pool.

‘I’m always up for donating to charities and that sort of thing,’ Mick says. ‘I was really happy to jump on board. There should be more of this stuff. And good on you guys for taking the initiative. We’re happy to be a part of it, for such an awesome cause.’
